Cox Comes Up Short In Stockton

PETERSEN MEDIA: The Stockton season finale did not go as Justyn Cox had hoped. Though he had a very fast racecar, Cox just had some things not go his way, and he closed his 2014 season coming up just short of making the feature event.
“We had a really fast racecar, though we had a nose wing come apart in time trials that held us back,” he said. “I caught a rut in the heat, and in the B, we were three wide for the last transfer, and I came up just a tick short.
With 44 360’s checked into the Stockton Dirt Track, Cox timed his Jimmy Vasser Chevrolet/JRI Shocks/JRD Endeavors backed No. 31c in 22nd fastest as his nose wing lost a sideboard during his two laps.
Heat race action saw the Clarksburg, CA driver move up from his sixth place starting spot to the second position, and as he made a move for the top spot, his car caught a rut, and his machine nearly got upside down, and Cox gave up all the valuable track position he had gained, and was bound for the night’s B Main.
Starting eighth in the B Main, Cox worked his way up behind Ivan Worden, and Carl Droivold, and as he looked for an opening around them on the hooked up and heavy track, he then felt pressure from Chase Johnson.
Getting into the sixth and final transfer spot, Cox then felt pressure from Tim Kaeding, who would get the spot late, and Cox was on the outside and looking in.
On the last lap, Cox went for broke to get into the feature, and as he committed to the top, and as the trio went three wide for the last two spots, Cox simply came up short.
“It was frustrating, because we really had a good car all night,” he explained. “I have to thank everyone who helped me out this year. It was awesome to run a ton of races in the family car, and I am looking forward to next year, and running more.”
The Cox Racing team would like to thank Capitol Casino, Jimmy Vasser Chevrolet, JRI Shocks, JRD Endeavors, NAAKE, LRB, Tim’s Hot Rods, Justice Brothers, Sacramento Theatrical Lighting, Worton Designs, Manzer Motorsports, MTFX Graphics, Konnected, and College Cyclery for their support during the 2014 season.
2014 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-256 Wins-0, Top 5’s-4, Top 10’s-10
