PETERSEN MEDIA- Having some tough luck chase him around Merced Speedway on Friday night, Justyn Cox bounced back to run fifth on Sunday night at Petaluma Speedway to open the 2020 season with C&M Motorsports.

“We really had a fast racecar all weekend long, and that is a huge testament to Cody, MF, and everyone that works on this car,” Justyn Cox said. “Friday night we had a lot of speed we just had some misfortune. Sunday night we were good all night, I just made mistakes early, but finally figured things out in the feature.”

Picking up a heat race win on Friday night at Merced Speedway, an opening lap wreck would see Cox endure damage to the Moorefield Construction/Berco Redwood/Berry Lumber backed No. 7c machine.

Unable to restart, Cox would be forced into the ‘B’ for one final shot at qualifying for the ‘A’. Able to win the ‘B’, Cox would pick up the win and make his way into the feature event.

Lining up 18th, the Clarksburg, CA driver would work his way through the field on the revamped bullring in Merced, CA. With a driver blowing a tire in front of him leaving him nowhere to go, Cox would lose a handful of positions before the yellow finally flew.

When the race drew to a close, Cox took the checkered flag with a 15th place finish.

Returning to action on Sunday night at Petaluma Speedway, Cox would pick up a third-place finish in is heat race before finishing second in his qualifier.

Sitting 10th in points, Cox would transfer directly into the feature event where he would grid the field from the 10thstarting spot for the 30-lap feature event. When the race went green, Cox seemed to get stronger and stronger with each lap.

Working his way through the Top-10, Cox would use a late restart to his advantage as he worked his way into the Top-5 and closed his first weekend of action with C&M Motorsports out with a fifth-place finish.

“Huge thanks to Cody and Mandi for this opportunity this year,” Cox said. “It really is a great atmosphere to race around, and I have a ton of fun working with their team. Thanks to everyone that helped us out all weekend long, looking forward to Chico, CA this weekend.”

The C&M Motorsports team would like to thank Moorefield Construction, Berco Redwood, Barry Lumber, Inc., PT Shocks, Swartz Diesel, Alturas Tires, and all of their product sponsors for their continued support.
