Cox Fights Back For Seventh Place Finish with SCCT

PETERSEN MEDIA- Though disappointed with the seventh-place finish on Saturday night, Justyn Cox showed a ton of speed in the C&M Motorsports No. 7c on Saturday night with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour as he would come from the back of the pack after a mid-race incident while battling for the race lead.

“It has been an eventful start to our season together, and I thought Saturday night we were finally going to have that great night that this team deserves,” Justyn Cox said. “We had a ton of speed and got into second, but unfortunately close quarters racing left us turned around on the 16th lap and forced us to the back of the pack.”

Timing the Berco Redwood/Berry Lumber/Lund Construction backed No.7c machine in second fastest in his qualifying group, the Clarksburg, CA driver would take advantage of the front row starting position in his heat race and score the win.

By picking up the win, Cox moved into the Dash, where a fifth-place finish placed him in the third row to start the 35-lap feature event.

When the race went green, Cox would slip back to sixth as he worked the bottom groove in the early stages of the race. Opting to try to the high side in three and four with a cushion starting to build, Cox would come alive and begin to work his way forward.

When the race’s first caution flag flew, Cox sat in the fourth position. When the green lights flashed back on, Cox made a nice move to overtake the second position and begin chasing after Tanner Carrick.

Another caution flag would put Cox alongside Carrick and Cox would actually pull ahead of the leader only to see the yellow lights flash and negate his move.

Back underway, Cox would continue to chase Carrick as he now dipped to the low side of the speedway.

Getting under Carrick the battle was on. On the 16th lap, close quarter racing action would result in Cox’s machine spinning out and coming to a stop facing the wrong direction.

Forced to the back of the pack, Cox would flex his muscles as he raced his way back through the field. Using a ton of restarts to his advantage, Cox would salvage the night with a seventh-place finish.

“I honestly feel like we had the best car on Saturday night, and that is a huge testament to all the work that Cody has been doing thus far in 2021,” Cox said. “With us getting to our season in Placerville, I feel like we have a great baseline and should equate to a very successful season.”

The C&M Motorsports team would like to thank Berco Redwood, Barry Lumber, Inc., Lund Construction, Anrak, Legacy Specialties, Inc. PT Shocks, Swartz Diesel, Alturas Tires, and all of their product sponsors for their continued support.

ON TAP: Cox and C&M Motorsports will be in action at Placerville Speedway on Saturday.
