PETERSEN MEDIA: Flirting with another win at Placerville Speedway on Saturday night, Justyn Cox would see a good run get cut short as a late race tangle would relegate him to a 14th place finish.

“It was just kind of the story of our season in one night,” Justyn Cox said. “We led some laps, and then had a couple of late issues that knocked us out of contention.”

Getting off to a very nice start on Saturday, Cox timed the Berco Redwood/Berry Lumber/Trex backed No. 31c in second fastest in qualifying time trials, the Clarksburg, CA driver would rally to a fourth place finish in his heat race after nearly getting upside down early in the race.

Making himself eligible for the redraw with his heat race finish, the Clarksburg, CA driver would pull the four pill and line up in the second row for the 25-lap feature event.

Jumping into the third spot in the opening laps on what was a tricky Placerville Speedway surface, Cox would make a big move on the fifth lap and take over the race lead.

Cox looked extremely strong out front as he would lead until the 14th lap. With a  car getting out of shape in front of him, Cox would check up and allow Kalib Henry by as the caution didn’t fly as the car was able to gather itself back up.

Having trouble in traffic as he chased after Henry, the lead duo would get into trouble on lap 23. As the leader got out of shape, Cox would have no where to go and would also bicycle and come to a stop as he ended up being scored 14th.

“We had a good run, but things just didn’t’ go our way,” Cox said. “It was good to have some fun, and I am really looking forward to Speedweek!.”

The Cox Racing team would like to thank Berco Redwood, Berry Lumber, Trex, PM Truck Repair, Justice Brothers, K&N, LRB, Konnected, A.R.T., Sacramento Theatrical Lighting, EyeLusions, All American Powder Coating, Coos Bay Speedway, Swimming Pool Perfections, Tim’s Hot Rod Shop, Shell Shock, Moyle Race Engines, and Manzer Motorsports for their support in 2017!
