PETERSEN MEDIA: Running in the state of Oregon for the second consecutive weekend, Justyn Cox picked up a fourth place finish during the opening night of the Marvin Smith Memorial, before early contact on Saturday night sent him to the back of the pack.

“We had a rocket ship all weekend long, and that is a huge testament to the work that Rodney Tiner Jr, Fez, Eric Davis, and Kyle Riley put in all weekend long,” Cox explained.

Getting things kicked off on Friday night, Cox would time the Berco Redwood/Berry Lumber/Trex backed No. 31c machine in fifth fastest, before lining up in the third

The Clarksburg, CA driver was able to work his way to the fourth spot in heat race action, and earned a spot in the dash where he would finish in the second spot.

Lining up for the 30-lap feature event on the front row alongside Trey Starks, Cox would settle into the second spot as Starks got the better jump. As Starks slowly got away, Cox was focused on hitting his marks and keeping his spot. In what was a non-stop feature event, Cox was strong in traffic as he was able to get through with no issues and reel Starks in.

With two laps to go, Cox would guess wrong in Traffic and as he bobbled he opened the door for Kyle Hirst and Jason Solwold to sneak by as he finished in the fourth spot to close up night one.

“I was disappointed in myself for making that mistake because the guys deserved to have a podium finish,” Cox explained.

Returning to the speedway on Saturday night, Cox continued to show great speed as he set the standard in time trials and earned the night’s quick time award.

From his sixth starting spot in heat race action, Cox took a liking to the high side of the speedway, as he jumped into the race lead and picked up the heat win , and again earned a berth in the dash where he would finish fifth.

Lining up in the third row for the 41-lap feature event, Cox would get turned on a lap three restart, resulting in him going to the tail end of the field. On the tight confines of the Cottage Grove Speedway, Cox would work his way up to the 13th spot before getting lapped on the 14th lap. After being with the leaders, Cox opted to call it a night and pull off to let the leaders race.

“Once we got lapped I felt it was right to pull off and let the leaders race,” Cox said. “We were fast both nights, and I have to again thank all the guys for their hardwork, and my girlfriend for making the trip up with us.”

The Cox Racing team would like to thank Berco Redwood, Berry Lumber, Trex, PM Truck Repair, LRB, JRI Shocks, Konnected, Sacramento Theatrical Lighting, College Cyclery, JRD Endeavors, VSR, ART, Axcel Race Suits, SafRacer.Com, K&N Performance, Justice Brothers, Cheetah IV Racing, E-ST Garage, Worton Designs, Manzer Motorsports,  and Tim’s Hot Rod Shop for their support in 2015!
