PETERSEN MEDIA: Getting back to his home state of California to race for the first time in over a month, Justyn Cox had a nice showing as he worked his way forward to finish fourth at Placerville Speedway on Saturday.
“We got off to a bit of a tough start, but my guys worked hard, watched the track, and we had a good car in the feature that saw us go from 18th and finish fourth,” Justyn Cox said.
Timing in 21st quickest in qualifying time trials, Cox would find himself in an early hole but didn’t give in as his team went to work to try and rebound.
Having some luck in his heat race, Cox would take the fourth and final transfer spot and move directly into the 25-lap feature event. Though in the feature, Cox still had some work to do as he would take the green flag in the 18th starting spot.
Cox would go to work on the famed ¼ mile facility as he bobbed and heave his way forward, taking advantage of some stoppages that led to double file restarts. Sitting in the fourth spot just past the halfway point, a lap 16 restart would see the Clarksburg, CA driver jump into second, but another caution would negate his efforts.
Getting to third on the next restart, Cox would hold down the final podium spot but a final restart would force him to the inside lane which would not be a prime spot. Losing a spot when the race came back to life, Cox would hang on to finish in the fourth spot when the checkered flag flew.
“We have really been running well, and have been in the top five every night for what seems like the last three weeks or so,” Cox noted. “We had a shot at the podium, but the cautions at the end hurt us a little, but still ended up being a nice night.”
