Cox Fourth at Placerville Speedway

PETERSEN MEDIA: Putting a new car together over the last week, Justyn Cox and his Cox Family Racing team picked up a fourth place finish on Saturday night as they took part in Placerville Speedway’s regular season opener.

“The new car felt great and it felt really good to be up front challenging for the win,” Justyn Cox said. “We had some issues on Friday night, but we got those sorted and it helped us for Saturday.”

Returning to the Placerville Speedway for the second time in 2016, Cox kicked things off by timing the Berco Redwood/Berry Lumber/Trex No. 31c entry in third quickest before running second during his heat race.

Pulling the one pill in the redraw, Cox would line up on the pole for the 25-lap ‘A’ Main event. Falling into second when the race came to life, Cox would feel pressure from a charging Greg DeCaires.

While working on the race leader, Cox would see Greg DeCaires by him to take the second spot, and then Justin Sanders would get by him to take over the third spot and drop Cox back to fourth.

Settling down, Cox would get into the third spot as he chased after Sanders. As the laps clicked off, Cox would feel pressure from Andy Gregg for the final position on the podium and as the duo came to the checkered flag, Gregg would nip him at the line and Cox would finish in the fourth spot.

“We missed the set up a little in the feature, but we still had a pretty good car,” Cox said. “I was forced to make a couple of mistakes early while trying to get the lead and it dropped us back, but we will take the fourth and move on to next week.”

Friday night Cox and company were in action at the Silver Dollar Speedway for the opening night of the Mini Gold Cup.

Timing his PM Truck Repair/STL/LRB entry in 19th quickest as he battled brake issues, Cox would finish fourth in his heat race, which ultimately lined him up in the ninth row for the feature.

From the tail end of the field, the Clarksburg, CA driver was able to gain some spots on an extremely hooked up surface as much of the race ran with no stoppages. Able to take what was given to him, Cox finished 12th on this night.

The Cox Racing team would like to thank Berco Redwood, Berry Lumber, Trex, PM Truck Repair, LRB, Konnected, Sacramento Theatrical Lighting, College Cyclery, JRD Endeavors, VSR, ART, K&N Performance, Justice Brothers, Cheetah IV Racing, E-ST Garage, Worton Designs, Manzer Motorsports, Swimming Pool Perfections, and Tim’s Hot Rod Shop for their support in 2016!

2016 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-8, Wins-0, Top 5’s-2, Top 10’s-3

ON TAP: Justyn Cox will head back up to the Placerville Speedway this coming Sataurday night.
