Cox Nets Ocean Speedway Top-10

PETERSEN MEDIA: Climbing aboard the family owned Cox Racing No. 31c machine on Friday night, Justyn Cox would travel to Ocean Speedway in Watsonville, CA and pocket an eighth-place finish during the track’s season opening event.

“Friday night was okay for us,” Justyn Cox said. “We tried some different things on our car early in the night and it set us back in qualifying a little bit and we had to dig ourselves out of a bit of a hole.”

Just narrowly missing out on the heat race inversion, Cox would time the Berco Redwood/Berry Lumber/Michael David Winery backed No. 31c machine in 17th fastest in time trials.

Lining up fifth in his heat race, the Clarksburg, CA pilot would pick up one important position in his heat race, as his fourth-place finish would transfer him directly into the 30-lap feature event.

On a very slick Ocean Speedway surface, patches of rubber would start to go down early in the race and rubber would continue to go down more predominantly as the laps clicked off.

From his 16th starting position, Cox would get what he could early as he worked his way towards the Top-10. Jumping into 10th by the sixth lap, Cox would continue to run there as passing would come to halt.

Just passed the halfway point, the Cox would jump up into eighth. Staying in the rubber, Cox would run a patient final 14 laps as he looked for any opening to gain more track position.

Unable to grab any more spots, Cox would cap his Friday night off with an eighth-place finish.

“Unfortunately, it took rubber pretty early, and really made it hard to pass,” Cox said. “I thought our car felt really good, we just put ourselves in a bad spot for the rest of the night with our time trial.”

The Cox Racing team would like to thank Berco Redwood, Berry Lumber, Michael David Winery, Five Window Beer Company, MDW Sports, Cranked Naturals, PM Truck Repair, Justice Brothers, K&N, Konnected, A.R.T., Sacramento Theatrical Lighting, College Cyclery, Arai, Racing Optics, All American Powder Coating, VSR, , Tim’s Hot Rod Shop, Shell Shock, Moyle Race Engines, and Richmond Engines for their support in 2020!

BY THE NUMBERS: Races-10, Wins-2, Top 5’s-6, Top 10’s-8
