PETERSEN MEDIA: Making the trip to the nearly Placerville Speedway on Saturday night to reunite with the King of the West Series after a couple of off weeks, Justyn Cox would tally a Top-10 finish during a hard fought feature event.

“We had good speed, but our result really doesn’t show it,” Cox said. “A couple of things didn’t go our way in the feature, and we ended up falling back to ninth.”

Timing the Berco Redwood/Berry Lumber/Trex backed No. 31c machine in ninth fastest in qualifying time trials, Cox would get around Chase Majdic in his heat race to pick up the win and move into the six-lap Dash.

Lining up for the Dash, Cox would lose brakes just before the green flag and would opt to pull into the pit area and take the eighth place finish, which placed him in the fourth row for the 30-lap feature event.

With most drivers using the bottom groove on the ¼ mile bullring, Cox would get up into the sixth spot in the race’s first few laps. Getting into a groove in the earl laps, one of the many cautions that flew would hurt Cox as his pass for fourth would be negated and he would find himself back in the sixth spot.

When the action resumed to race got into a green flag run where Cox would continue to run in the sixth spot until feeling pressure from Ryan Bernal. Falling back to the seventh spot just after the race’s halfway point, Cox would get on the binders as a car got out of shape in front of him.

Getting back up to speed as fast as he could, Cox would find himself back in the ninth spot with time running out. Working the bottom of the speedway the final few laps, Cox would end his night with a ninth place finish.

“I think we were way better than a ninth place car, but that’s the way it worked out,” Cox said. “I really fee like we have some good speed right now, but things just don’t seem to be going our way. Hopefully this week we can put together a couple of good runs at the Fall Nationals.”

The Cox Racing team would like to thank Berco Redwood, Berry Lumber, Trex, PM Truck Repair, LRB, Konnected, Sacramento Theatrical Lighting, College Cyclery, JRD Endeavors, VSR, ART, K&N Performance, Justice Brothers, Cheetah IV Racing, E-ST Garage, Worton Designs, Manzer Motorsports, Swimming Pool Perfections, and Tim’s Hot Rod Shop for their support in 2016!
