PETERSEN MEDIA: Taking advantage of Marysville Raceway getting a race in despite rainy weather last week, Justyn Cox had a good run going in the Civil War Series’ season opening event but a brake issue late in the race forced him to pull into the infield with 22 laps complete.

“It has just been a rough start to our season,” Justyn Cox said. “We got behind a little early in the night, but we really had a good run going on a technical track. Unfortunately some of the gremlins from Silver Cup followed us to Marysville, but Rod will go to work and we will be set for this weekend.”

Cox was one of 22 cars that braved the elements and checked into Marysville Raceway on Saturday night. Timing the Berco Redwood/Berry Lumber/Trex backed No. 31c machine in 15th quickest, Cox would find himself in an early hole.

Heat race action would see the Clarksburg, CA native show what he truly had on this night, as he got his elbows up and fought his way forward to finish in the second position. Though a good finish, a win would have made him Dash eligible, while second would put him in the 14th starting position.

When the 30-lapper came to life, Cox would get off to a nice start as he adapted to the slick and rutty surface well and was able to make gains early and often.

Working his way forward, Cox would close in quicker than expected on a fellow car and contact would ensue on the race’s fifth lap after working his way up to eighth. Going to the work area, Cox would re-fire from the tail end of the field, and would do as he did in the opening laps; move forward.

Threading the needle nicely, Cox would continue to pass cars and work his way toward as he tried to make the high side work to his advantage. Working back up to the eighth position again, Cox would notice his brakes starting to fade.

With a big race weekend on the horizon, Cox though better of riding it out for the final eighth laps and pulled into the infield ending his night.

“I made a mistake early and smoked a car, and I applogize to my guys and the other driver for making a mistake,” Cox noted. “We were fast, and I had some fun running up top at Marysville. Hopefully we can have a good weekend at Placerville Speedway and get our partners a good finish.”

The Cox Racing team would like to thank Berco Redwood, Berry Lumber, Trex, PM Truck Repair, Justice Brothers, K&N, LRB, Konnected, A.R.T., Sacramento Theatrical Lighting, College Cyclery, Arai, Racing Optics, All American Powder Coating, Coos Bay Speedway, Swimming Pool Perfections, Tim’s Hot Rod Shop, Shell Shock, Moyle Race Engines, and Manzer Motorsports for their support in 2018!

2018 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-3, Wins-0, Top 5’s-0, Top 0’s-0
