PETERSEN MEDIA: Climbing back aboard the Van Lare Motorsports No. 5V machine Saturday night in Petaluma, CA for the first time since November’s Copper Classic, Justyn Cox would have a good night go south as contact in the feature event ended his night early.
“First night out, and I was really pleased with how things felt right off the bat,” Justyn Cox said. “We got off to a great start, I didn’t draw well for the Dash, and then in the feature contact with another car ultimately ended our night early.”
Earning quick time honors in his qualifying group aboard the Bianchi Farms/Shark Racing Engines/All About Fire Protection backed No. 5V, Cox would play it safe in his heat race as his third place finish was good enough to move him into the Dash.
With the track getting a little slick in the Dash, Cox noted he was a little on the loose side, and ended up with an eighth place finish. By way of his finish, the Clarksburg, CA driver would line u in the fourth row for the 35-lap feature event.
With the moisture coming back to the surface prior to feature event action, a fast and rough surface would add some elements that would make things that much more challenging.
A good start would see Cox work his way as high as fifth, but an untimely yellow would negate his efforts and put him back to eighth.
Once in an extended green flag run, Cox would settle into eighth as he awaited traffic to try and make his moves forward. Seemingly getting stronger as his fuel load burned off, Cox would start to come to life.
Battling near the top five, contact on the 26th lap would prove detrimental to Cox and it would end his night early as he was officially be scored 20th.
“I have to thank Jim and Annette Van Lare for this opportunity,” Cox said. “It is a blast racing with them. Unfortunately we had some tough luck in the feature, but overall I am happy with our first night, and looking forward to the next one.”
Cox and Van Lare Motorsports would like to thank Bianchi Farms, Shark Racing Engines, All About Fire Protection, VSR, A.R.T. Speed Equipment, CCI, LRB, and Justice Brothers for their continued support.
