PETERSEN MEDIA: One week after a career best finish with the King of the West series, Justyn Cox put together another strong showing as he finished fifth during the 31st Annual Penny Newman Grain Cotton Classic.
“Aside from lacking a little forward drive I was pretty happy with how the car felt,” Justyn Cox said. “I feel like we have a pretty good handle on this car, and everything seems to be clicking as we head into Trophy Cup.”
Taking to Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford, CA on Saturday night, Cox would open his night up by timing the Berco Redwood/Berry Lumber/Trex backed No. 31C in seventh fastest during qualifying time trials.
Finishing second during his heat race, the Clarksburg, CA driver would miss out on a berth into the Dash, and would find himself in the fifth row of the 30-lap feature event.
On a track that was extremely technical, Cox would work his way up into seventh spot when the action came to life. Continuing to hold down the seventh spot as laps clicked down, Cox would then move into the sixth spot when the race hit the halfway point.
Chasing after Brent Kaeding who ran ahead of him in the fifth spot, Cox would show patience as he looked for a way into the Top-Five. A yellow flag would waive with just eight makers to go in the feature, and as the green was displayed to the field Cox was able to get by Kaeding and take over the fifth spot.
Closing in on Netto, Tim Kaeding, and Cory Eliason in the close laps, Cox just did not quite have enough to get up to them as he closed his Cotton Classic out with a fifth place finish.
“It was a tricky track and you had to be really patient,” Cox said. “My guys gave me a car that was I was able to move around in, and I was able to grab another Top-Five finish.”
The Cox Racing team would like to thank Berco Redwood, Berry Lumber, Trex, PM Truck Repair, LRB, Konnected, Sacramento Theatrical Lighting, College Cyclery, JRD Endeavors, VSR, ART, K&N Performance, Justice Brothers, Cheetah IV Racing, E-ST Garage, Worton Designs, Manzer Motorsports, Swimming Pool Perfections, and Tim’s Hot Rod Shop for their support in 2016!
