PETERSEN MEDIA: Travelling to Oregon to take part in Speedweek Northwest, Justyn Cox would reunite with car owner, Doug Rutz, and pick up a trio of Top-5’s over the five-race stretch.

“It was a fun week, and I have to thank Doug and Kathy Rutz for the opportunity, as well as all the people who helped on our car all week,” Cox said. “We definitely got better as the week went on, and had a blast.”

Monday night things kicked off in Yreka, CA where the Clarksburg, CA driver earned quick time honors before working his way from sixth to second in his heat race.

Running second in the Dash, Cox would chase after Mitchell Faccinto in the opening laps of the feature as Faccinto led early.

Continuing to run second, Cox would dive low trying to find some and would get freight trained by a few other drivers as he slipped back to fifth where he would finish.

With Tuesday night succumbing to Mother Nature, Wednesday night would see Cottage Grove Speedway step up and take on an added show. Timing in seventh fastest, Cox would finish third in both his heat race and the Dash.

Taking the green flag from the second row, Cox would slip back to fifth in the early laps as he searched around the slick surface. Falling off the end of the track, Cox would be relegated to the back of the pack. Able to salvage his night, Cox would slice and dice his way forward to close his night out with a 10thplace finish.

Bank, OR on Thursday night saw Cox go out late in time trials and end up 15thfastest on the speed charts before working his way to a third place finish in his heat race.

Lining up 13thin the feature event, Cox was able to make up some ground as he broke into the Top-10, and continued to fight his way forward as he capped his night out with an eighth place finish.

Friday night kicked off the two-night finale back at Cottage Grove Speedway, and Cox would again find himself with quick time in qualifications. Running second in his heat race, Cox would move into the all California driver dash where his fourth place finish put him in the second row of the feature event.

Jumping into third when the race came to life, Cox would continue to run in third until he missed the rubber late in the feature event and gave up a position as he took the checkered flag in fourth.

Saturday night’s return to Cottage Grove Speedway would mark the final night of Speedweek Northwest, as Cox looked to end on a high note.

Timing in sixth fastest in time trials, a fourth place finish in his heat race would line him up 10thin the final feature event of the week.

Able to move around a little, Cox would work his way up to the fourth position in the closing stages of the race.

Looking to pick up his third top five of the week, a parts failure getting into turn three would leave the driver a straight away from the finish line as he would be scored 16th.

“Bummer to end our week like that, but still had a lot of fun,” Cox added. “Thanks again to the Rutz family for the great opportunity. Looking forward to climbing back in the family car this weekend.”
