Cox Second at Placerville During Reunion with Van Dyke Motorsports

PETERSEN MEDIA: Justyn Cox climbed back aboard the Harley Van Dyke owned No. 5H on Saturday night in Placerville, CA and put together a nice run that saw him net a second place finish.
“I want to thank Harley Van Dyke for the opportunity to driver for him again,” Justyn Cox said. “Harley was such a huge part of me getting started in this sports, I really enjoy running for him again when it works out and his car was really good Saturday night.”
With 25 cars checked into Placerville Speedway for the track’s final point show of the season, Cox timed the famed No. 5h machine in fifth fastest in qualifying time trials.
A great heat race saw the Clarksburg, CA driver make a couple of nice moves to work his way forward to win the heat race, which would prove to be immensely important as he moved him into the nightly redraw.
With the eight pill being his fate, Cox would grid the field from the fourth row for the 25-lap feature event on the slick and racy surface. Getting a nice start, Cox would work his way forward and slip into fourth in the opening stages, before he used a restart to jump into second and set his sights on race long leader, Justin Sanders.
As Sanders earned his money pounding the cushion, Cox would go to work on the low side of the speedway and reel in the leader and look to have a great shot at his third win of the season.
Needing some help in traffic, untimely cautions would keep the leaders in clean air, and it would result in Cox being unable to get by and he closed his night out with a second place finish.
“I thought we had a shot at him (Sanders), but we just needed to get into traffic to make it really interesting,” Cox added. “Still, it was a great night and it was a blast to work with Harley Van Dyke again.”
The Cox Racing team would like to thank Berco Redwood, Berry Lumber, Trex, PM Truck Repair, Justice Brothers, K&N, LRB, Konnected, A.R.T., Sacramento Theatrical Lighting, College Cyclery, Arai, Racing Optics, All American Powder Coating, Coos Bay Speedway, Swimming Pool Perfections, Tim’s Hot Rod Shop, Shell Shock, Moyle Race Engines, and Manzer Motorsports for their support in 2018!
