Cox Seventh at Petaluma Speedway

PETERSEN MEDIA- Though Petaluma Speedway hasn’t been one of Justyn Cox’s best tracks over the course of his career, Cox was able to put a solid night together as his seventh-place finish on Saturday night helped preserve him the Sprint Car Challenge Tour point lead.

“Petaluma Speedway has really never been my cup of tea, and this was one of those nights that we were able to pick up a Top-10 and hang on to the points lead,” Justyn Cox said. “We had a good car, the track got kind of fast in the feature and we were in traffic a lot. We did slip back when I got held up, but luckily we were able to use the late restart and get back to seventh.”

Timing the Berco Redwood/Barry Lumber/Lund Construction backed machine in fifth fastest in his qualifying group, Cox would find himself in the third row for his heat race on a very slick Petaluma Speedway surface.

Going to work on the Bay Area Bullring, Cox had his elbows up as he carved his way forward. While he was unable to pick up the win and earn a spot in the Dash, Cox’s second place run was important as it lined him up right behind the Dash cars for the 35-lap feature event.

Taking the green flag from the seventh position, Cox would go to work as soon as the green flag dropped aboard the Anrak/Creason Enterprises/Legacy Specialties mount on a freshly groomed track surface.

Falling back to eighth briefly, Cox would regain the seventh position as the first 33-laps would click off with no stoppages putting the field in traffic for nearly the entirety of the feature.

Just past the halfway point, a close call in traffic would see Cox check up enough to where he would actually give up a couple of positions and slip back to ninth. Trying to get the lost positions, Cox would use the lap 33 restart to work his way back up to seventh where he would go on to finish.

“We were really fast again, and I really have to thank Cody and Mandi for providing me with a really fast car,” Cox added. “We are right in the mix for this points deal, and it is on my to make sure we are up front and competing. Looking forward to getting back to Placerville on Saturday night for a weekly points show, and then to Stockton in two weeks for another round of Sprint Car Challenge Tour action.”

The C&M Motorsports team would like to thank Berco Redwood, Barry Lumber, Inc., Lund Construction, Anrak, Creason Enterprises, Legacy Specialties, Inc. PT Shocks, Swartz Diesel, Alturas Tires, and all of their product sponsors for their continued support.

ON TAP: Cox and C&M Motorsports will bet right back to it on Saturday night at Petaluma Speedway with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour.
