PETERSEN MEDIA- Willie Croft and his Rudeen Racing team opened their 2016 season up with success on Saturday night at the Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, CA with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series as Croft recorded a career best third place finish with ‘The Greatest Show on Dirt.”
“I am very excited to team up with Rudeen Racing in 2016 to run what is shaping up to be a pretty fun schedule,” said Willie Croft. “We have had success racing together in the past, and to come out and run third with the World of Outlaws our first night out this year is pretty special.”
Croft opened the night up by timing the Kaeding Performance/Brown and Miller/Rod End Supply backed No. 26 machine in 8th fastest in qualifying time trials before racing his way to a win in his heat race.
By way of his heat race victory, Croft moved into the night’s Dash and with Lady Luck on his side, he would line up on the pole after the inversion pill was drawn.
Leading all six laps of the Dash, Croft would earn the right to put the XYZ/Firedown Graphics/Speedmart machine on the pole for the 35-lap World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series feature event.
Leading the field to green alongside David Gravel, Croft would lift the front wheels off the ground when the green flag dropped on what as an extremely hooked up racing surface.
Battling with Shane Stewart and Gravel as the field raced into turn one, Croft would find himself in the third spot, but right with the lead duo. Passing on this night was at a premium, and the drivers up front would battle nose to tail on a narrow surface.
Taking a shot at Stewart on a couple of restarts, Croft was unable to get the position, but was able to fend off current World of Outlaw point leader, Brad Sweet, for the duration of the feature event, and record a career best third place finish with the series.
“I was really excited to end up on the World of Outlaws podium alongside David Gravel and Shane Stewart,” Croft said. “It was a great accomplishment for this team, and I am looking forward to racing with these guys a lot more this year. I have to thank everyone involved for making this possible.”
Willie Croft and the Rudeen Racing team would like to thank Kaeding Performance, Brown and Miller, Rod End Supply, XYZ, Firedown Graphics, and Speedmart for their support in 2016.
