PETERSEN MEDIA- Saturday night at the Stockton Dirt Track, Willie Croft closed his 2015 campaign out with a Top-Five finish during the King of the West Series’ 32nd Annual Tribute To Gary Patterson.
“The track was pretty hooked up and fast, but we were able to work our way up from the fifth row and have a nice finish,” Willie Croft said.
With 22 cars on hand for the season finale, Croft timed his Holey Smokes BBQ/ButlerBuilt/Brown and Miller Racing Solutions backed No. 29 machine in eighth fastest during qualifying time trials.
Slipping back to third when his heat race got underway, Croft would chase after Carson Macedo and DJ Netto who ran ahead of him but would not be able to challenge them on the lightening fast surface, as he finished in the third spot.
Gridding the field from the fifth row for the final 30-lap feature event of the season, Croft showed he had a great car as he worked his way forward on the tricky surface. Getting by the likes of Sean Becker and Jason Statler during the course of the race, some carnage would ensue, but luckily croft was able to avoid it.
Racing with Bud Kaeding, and DJ Netto late in the race, Croft was able to secure the fifth spot as the checkered flag waived on the 2015 season in California.
“It was a tough track to make up a lot of ground on because it was just so fast,” Croft said. “It is unfortunate when that track gets like that because when it is racy it is really fun. I have to thank my guys for all of their help through the season, and all of the great partners this team has. Next year should be a pretty big year for us and I am looking forward to it.”
