Croft Cruises to Second at Placerville Speedway

PETERSEN MEDIA- Saturday night at Placerville Speedway, Willie Croft got back on track after a couple of tough weekends and raced his way to a second-place finish at the ¼ mile bullring.

“Honestly it feels really good to finish second after our last few races,” Willie Croft said. “It had been a bit of a struggle for our team, but we kept at it and to be up on the podium almost feels like a win, but we know there is still some work to do.”

With 29 cars checked in for battle at Placerville Speedway on Saturday night, Croft would be the last car out for time trials and managed to still find some speed on the slick surface as he ended up second fastest aboard the Holey Smokes BBQ/Rudeen/Art’s Beer Craft backed No. 29.

From the second row of his heat race, the Colfax, CA resident would finish in the third position which was good enough to put him in both the nightly redraw and the 25-lap feature event later in the evening.

When the race came to life, Croft would settle into third as he chased after the early leader, Shane Golobic and second running Andy Forsberg on the slick surface. In a fast-paced opening 19-laps that would stoppage free, the leaders would find themselves in traffic by the seventh lap.

Carving his way through traffic, Croft would sneak under Forsberg for the runner up position on the 15th lap as he then turned his attention to Golobic who had built up a sizeable lead.

The 19th circuit saw the yellow flag fly, which bunched the field back up but would take the leaders out of traffic, and with just six laps left in the race the likelihood of getting back into traffic was extremely slim.

Back underway, Croft would see Golobic motor away and quickly open up a nice lead, but the final caution of the night would fly two laps later and put the field in single file formation for a dash to the finish.

Giving chase for the final few markers, Croft would be unable to catch the leader, but still was able to finish second.

Friday night saw Croft and company check in at Chico, CA’s Silver Dollar Speedway where he would get his weekend started off by timing in ninth fastest in his group.

Lining up ninth in his heat race, Croft would have a little luck on his side, and would also have his elbows up, as he worked his way into the fourth position and transferred directly into the feature event.

Lining up 14th in the feature event on a very tricky surface that was very slick, and also rough, Croft would work his way into the Top-10. Racing into the 10th position, Croft would look for a way forward but as the race moved along passing would become extremely tough.

Able to get into ninth in the closing laps, Croft would take the checkered flag with a ninth-place finish.

“Looking forward to building off of the weekend as we head to the Peter Murphy Classic this weekend,” Croft added. “Again, big thanks to my guys, and everyone that supports our team.”
