Croft Fights Back To Finish 13th

PETERSEN MEDIA- After being involved in a lap one incident, Willie Croft was able to work his way forward from the tail end of the field to finish in the 13th spot.

“We started in the middle of the field, and a couple of cars got together, and as cars went every which way to avoid them, I ended up getting a piece of the wreck,” Willie Croft said.

20 cars were in action with the King of the West Series on Saturday night and Croft got his night started off by timing his Holey Smokes BBQ/ButlerBuilt/Brown and Miller Racing Solutions No. 29 machine in eighth fastest in time trials.

Running second in heat race action, the Roseville, CA pilot would not qualify for the night’s dash, and would find himself in the sixth row for the 30-lap feature event.

As the field completed the opening lap, a pair of cars would get together in turn two, and in heavy traffic, Croft would have nowhere to go and get a piece of the action, and take a trip to the work area with front end damage.

The Willie Croft Racing crew would work quickly to get ‘Double Down’ back on the track, as he would line up scratch on the field.

A tricky racing surface on Saturday night saw the bottom act as the preferred line, and passing became tough at times. Running a patient race, Croft was able to slowly make gains as the laps clicked off as he worked his way up to the 13th spot when the Ed Entz checkered flag waived.

“Huge thanks to my guys and everyone who helped make repairs the car after the lap one wreck, “Croft said. “We had a good car, but it was tough to get positions from the back. This place is really fun when its slick, and Saturday’s surface didn’t get as slick as I had hoped.”

Willie Croft Racing would like to thank Holey Smokes BBQ, ButlerBuilt , Brown and Miller, FK Rod Ends, Hinchman Indy, Schoenfeld, K&N, Smith Precision Products, Kaeding Performance, Dan Olson Products, Vortex Wings, Amerikote, and GUTS for their support in 2015.

2015 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-24, Wins-0, Top 5’s-5, Top 10’s-10.

ON TAP: Croft will take a week off before heading north to compete in the Dirt Cup at the Skagit Speedway in Alger, WA.
