PETERSEN MEDIA- Returning to action with the King of the West Series aboard his self owned No. 29 machine, Willie Croft would pick up a ninth place finish during Saturday night’s feature event in Petaluma, CA but would admittedly leave the track a little mad at himself.
“We were really good all night long, but I just made the wrong call for the feature event,” Willie Croft said. “We moved forward in the Dash, and I just did not tighten up enough for the feature event and kind of struggled.”
Timing the Holey Smokes BBQ/Butler Built/Brown and Miller backed no. 29 entry in eighth fastest on Saturday night, the Roseville, CA driver would turn in a very strong heat race performance as he raced his way to the win.
Earning a spot in the Dash draw, Croft would find himself with the six pill. From the third row, Croft would flex his muscles a bit as he powered his way forward and picked up a third place finish, putting him in the second row for the 30-lap feature event.
Watching the track, Croft felt confident heading out for the feature event, but the track did not quite do what he thought and it would result in Croft’s FK Rod Ends/Hinchman Indy/Schoenfeld entry becoming a bit of a handful.
Doing all he could to tighten his machine up to make grip on a slick surface, Croft would slowly fall back through the Top-10 as he would close his night out with a ninth place finish.
“My guys worked to hard to not be in the mix in the feature event,” Croft said. “I read the track wrong and just made the wrong decision. I have to thank everyone for all of their help, and thank our supporters for everything they do for this race team.”
