Croft Scores Two Top-10 Finishes With Rudeen Racing at Marvin Smith Memorial
PETERSEN MEDIA- Returning to the helm of the Rudeen Racing No. 26 machine over the weekend in Cottage Grove, OR, Willie Croft picked up a pair of Top-10 finishes during the 3rd Annual Marvin Smith Memorial.
“It was a really fun weekend with the Rudeen Racing guys, we just struggled to find grip both nights,” Willie Croft said. “We ran well, but we definitely had higher expectations.”
Kicking the weekend off on Saturday night, Croft would make it through his heat race where he would find himself in the seventh row for the opening night feature event.
On a very racy ¼ mile speedway, the Roseville, CA driver had his elbows up as he was able to slice his way through the star-studded field. Working all over the speedway as he was in traffic during the duration of the feature event, Croft would close the first night out with a sixth place finish.
Returning to action on Sunday night for the $4100-to-win finale, Croft would get things started off on a great note as he set the standard in his time trial group.
Lining up fifth in the 41-lap feature event, Croft would fall back to seventh when the race came to life. An extremely slick Cottage Grove Speedway saw Croft search for grip as he couldn’t get his Rudeen Racing/Kaeding Performance/Brown and Miller backed entry moving forward.
Running comfortably in the Top-10 during the feature, Croft would avoid a near catastrophe with a lapped car late in the main event, and would slow his pace on the final lap and slip back to take the checkered flag with a 10th place finish.
“I really have to thank these guys for the opportunity to get up to Cottage Grove Speedway and race,” Croft said. “It is one of my favorite tracks to get to, and even though we didn’t quite run how we had hoped it was still a great weekend of racing.”
