Croft Storms To Second at Stockton

PETERSEN MEDIA- With a tumultuous July in his rear view mirror, Sacramento, CA driver kicked off the month of August in style, as he scored a second place finish at the Stockton Dirt Track after a furious fight for the lead with Jonathan Allard in the closing laps of Saturday night’s event.
“I am just glad the calendar flipped to August, because July was horrible to us,” Croft said. “I can’t thank all the guys who help me out, because they really were forced to work hard the last month, and it was great to be back on the podium.”
With 22 cars on hand Saturday night, Croft got off to a quick start as he timed his Holey Smokes BBQ/Christian Stover Foundation/ButlerBuilt No. 29 entry in third fastest during qualifications.
Lining up in the fourth spot of his heat, Croft scored a third place finish, putting him in the feature event, and the dash, where he would start in the sixth spot, and finish fourth.
Lining up for the feature event in the second row, Croft got off to a great start, as he battled inside the top-five, battling with Jonathan Allard and Carson Macedo, as they set their sights on early leader, Bud Kaeding.
Using every piece of Stockton Dirt Track real estate, Croft worked into the third spot, as he kept Allard and Kaeding in his sights.
A lap 24 restart turned to a single file restart after issues on the first attempt with south, but when the green flashed, Croft followed Allard to the front, and took over the second spot, but looked for the lead.
Relentlessly exchanging slide jobs with Allard for the top spot, the duo put the crowd on the edge of their seats as they were thrilling up front.
Sometimes exchanging the top spot multiple times a corner, Croft couldn’t get the run he needed, and Allard continued to answer his challenge.
Though he came across the stripe in the second spot, Croft was still pleased with his efforts and results.
“Racing like that is what keeps me coming back,” Croft said. “We had a terrible month, but that right there was exciting, and fun, and I have to congratulate Jonathan Allard at the Tri-C guys. It’s great to rebound, and end our night with a second place finish, and hopefully we can keep going this same direction.”
