Croft Tunes Up for Big Stretch in CA at Stockton’s Champions Classic

PETERSEN MEDIA- With a big stretch of racing coming up in Northern California, Willie Croft made the trip to the Stockton Dirt Track on Saturday night to shake off some rust after a month-long hiatus from racing.

“Racing against these guys after taking a month off is tough,” Willie Croft said. “I definitely felt like it held us back, so hopefully we and improve on it as we head to Chico, CA this weekend and get a lot of racing in.”

Despite being out of the seat for a few weeks, Croft got his night off to a great start as he timed the Holey Smokes BBQ/Rudeen/Art’s Craft Beer Palace backed No. 29 entry timed in third fastest in qualifying time trials.

Lining up in the second row of his heat race, the Colfax, CA driver would finish in the fifth position and would miss out on a berth into the Sunnyvalley Bacon Dash.

Gridding the field from the 12th starting position on Saturday night, Croft would find himself battling for position just inside the Top-10. As the laps clicked off, he would slip back as he battled the likes of Justin Sanders, Robbie Price, and Joel Myers, Jr.

When the checkered flag flew, Croft capped off his night with a 14th place finish, as he now turns his attention to this weekend’s Louie Vermeil Classic, and the Gold Cup Race of Champions both taking place in Chico, CA.

“Saturday night I felt really rusty, and it led to a lot of mistakes,’ Croft admitted. “With some big races coming up, I came out to run with the hopes of shaking off some of the rust, but it was definitely a challenge to try and keep pace after an extended break from racing. Thanks to my guys for their hard work, and really looking forward to a lot of seat time the next few weeks.”

Willie Croft Racing would like to thank Holey Smokes BBQ, Rudeen, Art’s Craft Beer Palace, Amerikote, ButlerBuilt , SCI, Brown and Miller, FK Rod Ends, Factory Kahne, Schoenfeld, Team Simpson, Stilo, Smith Precision Products, Kaeding Performance, AL Drivelines, XYZ, Vortex Wings, DoTerra and GUTS for their support in 2021.
