Cunningham Gets First Taste Of Petaluma Speedway

PETERSEN MEDIA: Continuing his four-week tour of California, Michael Cunningham was in action at the Ocean Speedway on Friday night, where he ran during his 2013 campaign, and on Saturday night, he made his debut at the Petaluma Speedway in Petaluma, CA.
“Watsonville was nice and smooth, though our results don’t show it, was the best I have felt over here,” he said. “Petaluma, well that was a bit rough, we just don’t’ get tracks that rough back home, so I was a little timid.”
Friday night with the Taco Bravo Series, the driver simply known as ‘Pickle’, timed in 20th fastest before finishing in the sixth spot during heat race action.
Making his way to the B Main, Cunningham lined his PRP Engineering/A.R.T. Speed Equipment No. 74 machine up in the third row, and wasted no time getting to the front, as he picked up the win, and moved into the night’s feature event.
Lining up in the 17th spot of the 30-lap feature event, Cunningham was able to move around the speedway and try some different lines, as he picked up a 15th place finish at the finish line.
“Obviously we wanted to be a little better, but I am still getting used to these guys that we are racing with, and really trying to get comfortable with everything,” he said.
Heading to the Petaluma Speedway in Petaluma, CA on Saturday night to take on the Civil War Series presented by Flowmaster, Cunningham, timed his machine in 17th fastest.
Lining up in the third row of his heat race, Cunningham caught a rut on the opening lap, and nearly got upside down, but he was able to keep his machine on all fours, and off of the fence, though he would finish in the eighth spot.
With a light car count on hand, the Kyneton, Victoria AU driver would line up in the ninth row of the 30-lap feature event, on what was a very fast and rough surface. Getting used to the rough stuff, Cunningham would admittedly be too timid at times, and finish in the 19th spot.
“Getting used to the rough tracks is a bit difficult,” he explained. “The young kids can bounce right through it, but I’m not a young kid anymore and think twice about it. I was a little too cautious at times, but we had some fun. Cool to check out another track.”
Michael and his Cunningham Racing team would like to thank PRP Engineering, and A.R.T. Speed Equipment for their support.
