Dakota Albright Continues to Adapt To Winged Sprint Car

PETERSEN MEDIA- Saturday night, Dakota Albright made his winged 360 Sprint Car debut at Placerville Speedway. Though he still continues to adjust, learn, and take his lumps, Albright was happy to make laps and has an idea of some things he can improve on this coming week.

“Getting to Placerville Speedway on Saturday night, a track that I have ran on and had success at in other cars gave me a little bit of a comfort level, and having last week under my belt helped as well,” Dakota Albright said. “There is still a ton for me to learn, and stuff I need to clean up, but I feel like there was some improvement from last week to this week, and now I look to make even more next week.”

With 36 cars checked in for the track’s first Sprint Car race of the season, Albright timed the Thompson’s Family of Dealerships/Sacramento Battery/Morgan Precision Roofing backed No. 34 entry in 17th fastest in his time trial group.

Putting him in the fifth row of his heat race, the Waterford, CA driver was able to make up some ground as he worked his way forward to finish seventh.

Though he didn’t transfer directly into the feature event, Albright felt good about heading into the ‘B’ where he took the green flag from the ninth starting position.

When the race went green, Albright worked the low groove of the speedway and picked up a few positions early as he worked into seventh. On the everchanging dirt track surface, Albright would abandon the bottom and move to the top on fifth lap but tripped over the thick cushion and gave up the track position that he earned early.

Slipping back to 10th, Albright capped his Placerville debut off with a10th place finish in the semi.

“In the heat race I felt okay, but knew we had a little work to do for the ‘B’, and early in the ‘B’ I felt very racy,” Albright said. “One thing I am learning is I have to get better with moving my wing with how much the track changes. Thankful to Rick Spencer and his family for their continued support, and looking forward to trying again at Placerville Speedway this week.”
