PETERSEN MEDIA: A busy weekend for Dawson Hammes saw the Marysville, CA driver bounce back from a bit of a tough night on Friday in Chico, CA at the David Tarter Memorial, and record a third-place finish on Saturday night at Marysville Raceway.
“Friday night we didn’t time in well, and with the car count and the format it played a huge role,” Hammes said. “We worked hard and still charged our way into the feature from the ‘B’, so that was a positive.”
With 41 cars on hand Friday night at Silver Dollar Speedway for the David Tarter Memorial, Hammes got his night started off by timing the Movement Brewing/STS Farming/All About Fire Protection backed No. 55D in ninth quickest in his group.
Lining up ninth in his heat race, the slick surface did allow some passing as Hammes worked his way forward and picked up a seventh-place finish.
While it wasn’t enough to move him directly into the feature event, it improved his starting position in the semi drastically as he took the green flag from the third row with only four transfer positions up for grabs.
Taking the green flag from fifth Hammes jumped into fourth when the race came to life and was able to settle in. Holding on to the fourth and final transfer when the checkered was displayed, Hammes kept his night alive as he moved into the feature event and lined up 24th in the 35-lap feature event.
With the track extremely slick in the feature, Hammes was very patient from the back of the pack as a little rubber ultimately started to do down on the racing surface. Hitting his marks, Hammes picked up a handful of positions as the race clicked off laps as he finished 18th.
Travelling to Marysville Raceway on Saturday night, Hammes got his night off to a strong start as he timed in fifth fastest in qualifying time trials.
Lining up third in his heat race, contact got Hammes out of shape in the early stages and forced him to restart from the back of the pack. Working his way forward, Hammes was able to get back to fifth, which was vital as he locked him into the nightly redraw.
Drawing the one pill, Hammes was on the pole for the 25-lap feature event. Having to battle with the likes of Andy Forsberg and Tanner Carrick, Hammes slipped back to third during the feature event but was very strong as they ran through traffic.
In the end, Hammes was pleased with his third-place finish.
“Saturday night, I got beat by two really good guys,” Hammes said. “It was a good weekend, and I am looking forward to getting after it again this weekend. I want to thank my parents for their support as well as Carson and Cody for always being there to help.”
Hammes Motorsports would like to thank Movement Brewing, STS Farming, All About Fire Protection, Summit Partners Burbank Agency, Harper Inc., and Ace Attorney Services for their continued support.
