Dawson Hammes Charges to 9th After Opening Lap Tangle

PETERSEN MEDIA: Getting spun around on the race’s initial start on Saturday night in Marysville, CA, Dawson Hammes forfeited his third starting position and kicked the feature off from the tail end of the field. When the wild race came to an end, the Marysville, CA driver recovered to a ninth place finish.

“We had a fast car all night long, and it is a bummer we got tangled up on the start of the race and gave up a really good starting position,” Dawson Hammes said.

With the track returning to action after being idle last week, 21 cars checked into the pit area and Hammes timed his No. 55D entry in fourth quickest in qualifying time trials.

Lining up in the second row of his heat race, Hammes slipped back to fifth as he went to work on the extremely slick Marysville Raceway surface that was offered up on this night.

Hanging on to finish fifth, Hammes was locked into the redraw thanks to his qualifying effort. Pulling the three, Hammes was set to take the green flag from the inside of the second row for the 25-lap feature event.

When the green flag was displayed to the field, Hammes charged into turn one, but contact ensued and resulted in him spinning to a stop and drawing a caution.

Taking the next green flag from 16th, Hammes went to work as he now found himself in dense traffic. Carefully navigating his way forward, the caution plagued feature event didn’t allow for Hammes to get into a rhythm.

Still, taking what he could get as he worked around the slick surface, Hammes was able to work his way into the Top-10 as he officially battled back to a ninth-place finish.

“It wasn’t the result we were hoping for after how our night started,” Hammes said. “Going to the back early the race is always tough, and it makes it hard to get going. I want to thank everyone that supports us, my family, as Evan, Cody, Cole, Mallorie, and Tony for all of their help.”

Hammes Motorsports would like to thank Movement Brewing, STS Farming, All About Fire Protection, Summit Partners Burbank Agency, Escalera Inc, Harper Inc., and Ace Attorney Services for their continued support.

BY THE NUMBERS: Races: 8, Wins: 1, Top 5’s: 3, Top 10’s: 6

ON TAP: Hammes will get back to racing when the action returns to Marysville Raceway on July 3rd.
