Dawson Hammes Opens 2023 With Podium Run at Marysville Raceway

PETERSEN MEDIA: Friday night in Marysville, CA, Dawson Hammes got his 2023 season off to a great start as the youngster tallied a third-place finish at the Sherm and Loree Toller Memorial.
“Friday night was a lot of fun, and I was really happy with how our night went,” Hammes said. “I want to thank Joel Myers Jr for coming out and helping with the car after landing back in the states earlier in the week. It meant a lot, and he is always fun to race with.”
Hammes got his night kicked off by timing the Movement Brewing/STS Farming backed No. 55d entry in fifth fastest in qualifying time trial, which was good enough to put him on the front row of his heat race.
“I missed my line in qualifying, but we had good speed and it still put us in a really good position for the rest of the night,” Hammes added.
Lining up on the front row of his heat race, Hammes was able to get the jump and cruise to the heat race win. Picking up the win was vital on this night, as it made the Marysville, CA driver eligible for the redraw.
Pulling the four, Hammes lined up in the second row of the 25-lap feature event alongside Sprint Car veteran, Andy Forsberg. When the race came to life, Hammes settle into fourth for the opening two laps before issues for the third-place car drew the race’s only caution.
Back underway, Hammes was comfortably in third as he chased after the lead duo of Tanner Carrick and Andy Forsberg. With the race essentially going non stop for the final 22-laps, Hammes would close in on Forsberg numerous times and challenge for the runner up position as they raced through traffic.
Unable to quite make anything stick to overtake the runner up spot, Hammes capped his opener with a third-place finish.
“To run third to Carrick and Forsberg is a really good night,” Hames said. “A big thanks to my parents for continuing to make all of this possible, as well as a shoutout to Josh, Dalton, Guy, and Ally for their help. It really means a lot of have great people come out and support.”
Hammes Motorsports would like to thank Movement Brewing, STS Farming, All About Fire Protection, Summit Partners Burbank Agency, Harper Inc., and Ace Attorney Services for their continued support.
