Dawson Hammes Records Top 10 with Sprint Car Challenge Tour at Marysville Raceway

PETERSEN MEDIA: Making his first start with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour on Saturday night at Marysville Raceway, Dawson Hammes survived a wild feature event, overcame an early tumble and still recorded a 10th place finish.

“It was a wild night, and I am glad we were able to finish and not tear too much up,” Dawson Hammes said. “It was very tough field, and happy with how our night went.”

A total of 39 cars checked into the pit area on Saturday night, and Hammes timed the Movement Brewing/STS Farming/All About Fire Protection backed No. 55D entry in 14th fastest in his qualifying flight.

Lining up seventh in his heat, Hammes needed to finish in the Top-5 to earn the automatic transfer into the feature event, and he was able to do just that. Picking up a couple of crucial positions, Hammes secured the 5th and final transfer into the ‘A’ and was locked into the 20th starting position.

The feature event was riddled with stoppages on this night and it turned into a wild feature event. Hammes endured his bout with bad luck on the eighth lap as he got out of sorts in turns one and two and brought out the red flag as he got upside down.

With minimal damage, the Marysville, CA driver was able to make a trip to the work area where some repairs allowed him to restart the race.

Mired in the back of the pack with a bit of damage, Hammes was able to patiently work his way forward and take advantage of some more craziness that took place in front of him.

When the checkered flag finally flew on the race, Hammes had successfully worked his way back up to finish 10th.

“Big thanks to my family for their continued support, and a I want to thank Cody, Cole, Ben and Jamie Frerichs, Hunter Owens, and Jeremiah for their hard work getting us back on the track,” Hammes said. “Looking forward to doing it again this week.”

Hammes Motorsports would like to thank Movement Brewing, STS Farming, All About Fire Protection, Summit Partners Burbank Agency, Escalera Inc, Harper Inc., and Ace Attorney Services for their continued support.
