Dawson Hammes Sixth at Marysville Raceway
PETERSEN MEDIA: Saturday night at Marysville Raceway, Dawson Hammes had a solid night that resulted in him picking up a sixth place finish as the track’s schedule begins to wrap up.
“We had a fast car Saturday night, and we showed that early with us earning quick time,” Hammes said. “Unfortunately, we had issues and went out at the end and the penalty was no redraw, so that hindered us a bit.”
Earning quick time despite going out last in time trials after missing his scheduled spot, Hammes lined up in the second row of his heat race. Able to jump into third when the green flag was displayed to the field, Hammes settled in and picked up the third-place finish.
Enduring the penalty of no redraw, Hammes was set for the feature event where he rolled off of the starting grid from the ninth starting position.
Trying a couple of different things on their set up for the feature, Hammes got off to a slow start as he slipped back through the field. Continuing to work around Marysville Raceway, Hammes was able to slowly work his way back into the Top-10.
Taking advantage of a couple of late restarts, Hammes got his elbows up and made a late bid for a top-five finish. Getting into sixth, Hammes could not quite find a way into the Top-Five has he capped the race off with a sixth-place finish.
“We tried a new tire, and some other things on our car for the feature and we struggled a little.” Hammes noted. “As the race went on we got rolling, and a coule of restarts helped up get back up to sixth. Thanks to my parents, Carson, Ally, Dalton, Guy, Samuel, and Jeremiah for all of ther help on Saturday. Also a big thank you to all of the great sponsors that continue to support us.
