PETERSEN MEDIA- Getting back to work at the Placerville Speedway on Saturday night, Greg DeCaires and his Dale Miller Motorsports team had a very nice showing that saw the Elk Grove, CA work his way forward to finish in the third spot.
“The track was pretty sticky, but we had a good car and were able to move forward and get back up on the podium,” Greg DeCaires said.
Timing the Dale Miller Plumbing and Septic/Thompson’s Auto Center/RedHawk Casino backed No. 4sa machine in seventh fastest in qualifying time trials, DeCaires would find himself in a prime starting spot for his heat race.
From his front row starting spot, the reigning Placerville Speedway Track Champion got out to the early lead and never looked back, as he would pick up the win and make himself eligible for the feature event re-draw.
Despite the scorching June heat, the track would stay hooked up on this night, and DeCaires’ third row starting spot would put the NAAKE Suspension/A.R.T. Speed Equipment/King Racing Products entry a little further back on the grid with passing looking to be at a premium.
The opening stages of the race would be slowed with cautions, but once the race settled into an extended green flag run DeCaires would work his way forward on the fast surface.
Slowly getting into the fifth spot, DeCaires would find himself chasing after Jimmy Trulli and Steven Tiner who ran in front of him. Working on Trulli for several laps, DeCaires would overtake the fourth spot as Shawn Conde and Steven Tiner battled in front of him.
Late in the race, DeCaires would find an opening in traffic to get by Conde and take over the third spot as the leaders closed in on each other amidst heavy traffic. Unable to make a play for the second spot, DeCaires would close his night out with a third place finish.
“It was good to move forward, and hopefully we can keep that up this weekend when the Civil War Series comes to town,” DeCaires added. “I really want to thank Dale and Tara Miller and this entire team for everything.”
