DeCaires Celebrates Birthday With 2nd Place Finish at Placerville Speedway
PETERSEN MEDIA- One week after a tough night at Placerville Speedway saw him and his team lose the point lead, Greg DeCaires and the Dale Miller Motorsports team came back strong as they finished in the second spot after battling for the race win.
Celebrating his 50th birthday at the speedway, DeCaires opened his night up by timing the potent Dale Miller Plumbing and Septic/Thompson’s Auto Center/RedHawk Casino backed No. 4SA machine in 10th quickest in qualifying time trials.
Lining up on the front row of his heat race, DeCaires was able to get the best of Mike Benson to take the win and make himself eligible for the nightly redraw which set the first four rows of the feature event.
Pulling the three pill, the Elk Grove, CA native line the NAAKE Suspension/A.R.T./King Racing Products entry up in the second row of the 25-lap affair on the slick Placerville Speedway racing surface.
When the race came to life, DeCaires would quickly take over the second spot as he chased after the early leader, Jimmy Trulli. In a race that was chalk full of stoppages, the opening 11 laps would rip off with no major issues and it would allow the leaders to encounter traffic.
On the ninth lap, DeCaires would use a big move to get around Trulli and bring the crowd to their feet as he took command of the race and began leading the way.
Enduring several stoppages that slowed the flow of the race, DeCaires would soon feel pressure from Steven Tiner, who had moved into the second spot. A myriad of stoppages would see numerous restarts, and finally a lap 20 restart would hurt DeCaires as Tiner would get the best of him and drop him back to the second spot.
Trying to race his way back around the new leader, DeCaires would come up just short as he would still bring the Miller Motorsports entry home with a second place finish.
