PETERSEN MEDIA- Getting two nights of action in over the weekend, Greg DeCaires and his Miller Motorsports team would have a successful showing that saw the team finish fourth on Saturday night before pocketing a third place finish on Monday night at the Placerville Speedway.
“It was a great weekend by out entire team,” DeCaires said. “Saturday night we made do on an extremely slick surface, and on Monday it was a little more hooked up and we had another good showing.”
Taking to the track on Saturday night, DeCaires would get his night started by timing the Dale Miller Plumbing and Septic/Thompson’s Auto Center/RedHawk Casino backed No. 4SA in seventh fastest.
Racing his way to a second place finish in his heat race after a torrid battle with Matt Peterson, the Elk Grove, CA driver would line up in the 10th starting spot for the 25-lap feature event.
A very slick surface greeted competitors on this night, and DeCaires would be up for the challenge as he would work his way toward the top-five tip-toeing around the tricky surface. Finding himself in a heated battle with Andy Gregg, Mike Benson and Michael Kofoid.
Getting up as high as the third spot during the course of the race, the reigning track champion would finish in the fourth spot.
Taking Sunday night off, DeCaires and company would be back at the high banked ¼ mile on Monday night to enjoy the 4th of July holiday. A track with a bit more moisture in it greeted the field on this night, as DeCaires would time the NAAKE Suspension/A.R.T./King Racing Products entry in 10th fastest.
Lining up on the front row of his heat race, DeCaires would race his way to the win and earn a spot in the Top-Eight redraw for his efforts. Pulling the eight pill, DeCaires would have his work cut out for him as he gridded the field from the fourth row on a surface that did not look like it would be conducive to passing.
Working into the Top-Five during a fast paced opening half of the race, DeCaires would take advantage of a couple of restarts, and find himself in the third spot as the track began to widen out. Racing with Tyler Walker for the second spot, DeCaires would show him his nose on a pair of occasions but could not get a run on him to seriously challenge for the spot.
With the checkered flag in the air, DeCaires closed his weekend out on the podium with a third place finish.
“To run well on both types of surfaces was great for our team,” DeCaires said. “We came from the fourth and fifth row both nights and had some really good finishes. My guys worked hard, and we had a really strong weekend.”
Greg DeCaires and the Dale Miller Motorsports team would like to thank Dale Miller Plumbing and Septic, Thompson’s Auto Center, RedHawk Casino, NAAKE Suspension, A.R.T. Speed Equipment, King Racing Products, BR Motorsports, Gary Morgan Graphics, Joe Hunt Magnetos, Smith Precision Products, MotoWear, Frank’s Auto Body Shop, and Wesmar Racing Engines for their support.
