Deuces Wild for Austin Liggett in Petaluma, CA

PETERSEN MEDIA: Returning to action with both the USAC Western States Midget Series as well as the USAC West Coast 360 Sprint Car Series on Saturday night in Petaluma, CA, Austin Liggett would turn in a pair of second place finishes as he continues to lead the Midget points standings in 2021 and sits second in Sprint Car points.
“It was great to have a consistent night, and it is hard to be mad at two second place finishes,” Austin Liggett said. “Glad to have both cars roll back in the trailer and can’t wait to get back to racing.”
In Western States Midget action, Liggett would pick up a third-place finish in his heat race aboard the Excel Environmental Services/Liggett Trucking/Tool Technology backed entry.
Returning to the track later in the evening for his qualifier, the Tracy, CA driver would pick up a second-place finish and find himself on the front row of the feature event.
Looking to score his second win of the year with the series, Liggett would slip back to second as the race came to life with Maria Coffer getting the early lead. With the leader setting a torrid pace, Liggett would keep her in his sights, but on this night she proved to be just too tough to get by as Liggett accepted the checkered flag with a second place finish.
In Sprint Car action, the series opted to also use a passing point format on this night as well in lieu of qualifications. In his first heat, Liggett would tally a third-place finish, before finishing second in his qualifier.
Lining up third in the feature event, Liggett would quickly move into second as he chased after Geoff Ensign, who led from the onset. Getting close to the Petaluma Speedway regular on a couple of occasions, Liggett would be unable to make anything happen to take over the stop spot.
Just as he did in Midget action, Liggett would turn in another strong run as he finished second in Sprint Car action.
“Overall, it was a solid night, and I have to thank everyone that helps us in the pit area,” Liggett said. “No matter how the night goes, having two cars racing is always a challenge.”
Austin Liggett Racing would like to thank Excel Environmental Services, Liggett Trucking, Tool Technology, Hurst Fabrications, Maxwell Industries, Shine Photography, ZMAX Racing Oil, and Transport Products Unlimited for their support.
BY THE NUMBERS: Races-10, Wins-1, Top 5’s-7, Top 10’s-7
ON TAP: At time of press, Liggett’s next scheduled race is June 5th in Ventura, CA.
