PETERSEN MEDIA: Running a make up feature and a regular program on Friday night at the Williams Grove Speedway, Lance Dewease gave it everything he had during the Billy Kimmel Memorial feature, coming up just short as he finished in the second spot.

“We were really good during the make up feature, we had a shot late in the race but the leader took our line, and we ended up finishing second,” Dewease said.

With the make up feature kicking things off at ‘The Grove’, Dewease showed speed early as he worked his way forward, and towards the top five.

On the 15th lap of the feature event, the Fayetteville, PA driver sat in the fifth spot when the yellow flew as he rode behind Brian Montieth Stevie Smith, Ryan Smith and race leader, Rodney Westhafer.

When the race went back green, Dewease quickly made a move around Montieth to take over the fourth spot, before he got by Smith for the third spot on the 18th lap.

Lap 20 saw Dewease make quick work of Ryan Smith aboard his C.C. Dietz Builders/Conduit Connections/Hess Ornamental Irons machine, as he chased after Westhafer.

Pulling up to Westhafer’s rear bumper as the white flag flew, the yellow flag waived instead of the checkered, giving Dewease a final shot at the win. When the action came back to life, he stayed glued to Westhafer, but Westhafer moved to the bottom of the speedway to protect himself, and was able to hold off Dewease, who crossed the stripe just .148 seconds behind the winner.

“It was a fun feature,” he added. ‘We worked our way up there, and put ourselves in a great spot, but we just came up short.”

During the regularly scheduled program, Dewease gridded the field from the eight spot, as he spent much of the race battling with the likes of Ryan Smith and Alan Krimes.

Taking advantage of a pair of cautions through the race, Dewease would work his way up to a fifth place finish on the night, closing his Friday night with a second and finish place finish.

“Overall it was a pretty good night for the Dietz Motorsports team,” he added. “We ran well in the first feature and finished second, and during the second feature we were okay, and were able to move forward and finish fifth.”

At Selinsgrove on Saturday night, Dewease and company looked to be well on their way to their third Top-Five finish of the weekend, but mechanical gremlins stood in their way as their night came to an end while running in the fourth spot.
