PETERSEN MEDIA: A big race weekend on the West Coast was highlighted by drivers claiming top prizes in both the Dirt Classic and the Dirt Cup.
The Abreu family rolled their sleeves up and hosted quite a show on Saturday night in Calistoga as they partnered with the Dirt Classic brand to put on a show benefiting the Boys and Girls Club of St. Helena and Calistoga.
The 360/410 combo show went off without a hitch, and at the end of the night it was two drivers hoisting Calistoga Speedway replica trophies in victory lane. In the 360ci race, it was all about Dominic Scelzi. Scelzi would wire the field and simply dominate as he led all 30-laps to win with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour. In the KWS 410 event, DJ Netto was in the right place at the right time. Taking the lead on the 20th lap, Netto would lead the final five laps to give car owner Clyde Lamar his 14th career win at the famed speedway.
In the Pacific Northwest, the stars and cars of the Lucas Oil ASCS National Series invaded Skagit Speedway for the Dirt Cup. Like he has been all year, Sam Hafertepe, Jr was the class of the field. Hafertepe would dominate the weekend as he won both Friday and Saturday night.
Shane Stewart and his Larson Marks Racing team had a great weekend as they swept the weekend with the World of Outlaws in what was the team’s first two nights with a new crew chief, Shane Golobic also won with the King of the West Series during Friday night action at Ocean Speedway.
Danny Dietrich returned to his winning ways in PA after some strong runs in Ohio Speedweek. PA native, Tim Shaffer, capped off a strong Speedweek, by being crowned Ohio Speedweek Champion.
At Knoxville Raceway, Clint Garner was the man to beat in 360ci action, as he landed in victory lane on Saturday night.
