PETERSEN MEDIA: DJ Netto had a night to remember on Friday night as he picked up his career best finish with the World of Outlaws, third, during the opening night of the 62nd Annual Gold Cup Race of Champions.
“I can’t say enough about this team,” DJ Netto said. “We just came together, and we have been working very hard to adjust to each other, and it feels awesome to finish on the podium with the World of Outlaws.”
Earning quick time honors on Friday night, Netto would pick up a fourth place finish aboard the Netto Ag/Penny Newman Grain/Bogies Auto Parts No. 88n machine and move into the night’s Dash.
A fifth place finish in the Dash would put the Hanford, CA driver in the third row for the 30-lap Gold Cup Race of Champions opening night feature event. Hanging in the Top-Five in the early portion of the feature as he held off Donny Schatz, Netto would use a lap seven restart to move into the fourth spot as he chased after Kerry Madsen.
Getting by Madsen for third in traffic, Netto would slide up in front of Joey Saldana to take the second spot, but would make a slight mistake in turns three and four to hand the spot back to Saldana.
Working hard on Saldana in the final laps, Nett would hold of Schatz at the line to finish in the third spot, marking his best World of Outlaws A main feature event finish to date.
Timing in ninth fastest during the Gold Cup Race of Champions finale, Netto would just narrowly miss the heat race inversion, but his fifth place finish in the heat would put him in the 40-lap A Main event.
Working on the top side of the speedway, Netto would get some debris town up under the hood of his machine and ultimately damage some spark plugs, and force him to end his night early.
Heading to Antioch on Sunday night to lose out his weekend with the World of Outlaws, Netto would be the final car to make the heat race inversion as his 12th quick effort lined him up on the front row of his heat race.
Picking up the win, Netto would move into his second World of Outlaws Dash of the weekend where an eighth place finish would line him up in the fourth row of the A Main.
Battling inside of the Top-10 during much of the race, Netto would have issues on lap 23, and would bring his machine to a stop on the racing surface, as he would be relegated to a 21st place finish.
“There was some good things that came out of the weekend, and I really owe it to my guys for all of their hard work,” Netto said. “With two races in Hanford, CA this weekend, I am really looking forward to see what we can do.”
DJ and his Netto Racing team would like to thank Netto Agriculture, Penny Newman Grain, Bogies Auto Parts, Kaeding Performance, and Vande Pol Enterprises for their support in 2015.
ON TAP: Netto will be in action this Friday and Saturday night at the Kings Speedway in Hanford, CA.
