PETERSEN MEDIA: After some time to regroup after a busy Fourth of July race weekend, DJ Netto and the Tri-C Motorsports team had a nice weekend in Watsonville, CA that saw the team finish third on Friday night with the Civil War Series and fifth on Saturday night with the King of the West Series during the 7th Annual Howard Kaeding Classic.
“It was a pretty good weekend for our race team, that maybe could have even been better,” Netto said. “I made a couple of mistakes on Saturday night that made us lose some positions, but overall to come away with two Top-Fives with the field of cars we had is pretty good.”
Friday night at Ocean Speedway, Netto opened the two-day extravaganza up by timing in seventh quickest in qualifying time trials. Finishing third in his heat race aboard the Tri-C Manufacturing/Netto Ag/Penny Newman Grain entry, Netto would also make himself eligible for the Dash.
Winning the Dash, the Hanford, CA driver would lead the field to green for the 30-lap affair. Falling to second as the race came to life, Netto would chase after Michael Kofoid in the early stages.
A restart on the 10th lap would see Kyle Hirst get by, and Netto would drop back to the third position. Getting back up to second just past the race’s halfway point, Netto would battle with Kofoid for the position before Kofoid was able to get the better of him in the closing laps as he ended up third.
Back at Ocean Speedway on Saturday night with the King of the West Series, Netto would again time in well as he ended up fourth fastest when it was said and done.
Turning in a very exciting performance in his heat race, Netto would grab the win at the line and move into the Dash. Lining up fourth in the Dash, a fourth place finish would put the famed Tri-C entry in the second row for the 30-lap feature event.
With track crews working hard to preserve the surface that was going away large in part to the early start, the track would be fast for the 30-lap feature event. Hanging around the Top-Five much of the race, Netto would make one minor mistake that briefly dropped him back to sixth.
Continuing to run a good race, Netto would get the lost position back and take the checkered flag in the fifth spot.
“I have to thank the guys that continue to help us, and Clyde and Marion Lamar for letting us run a lot of races,” Netto added.
