PETERSEN MEDIA: Returning to his native California after is second trip to the Knoxville Nationals; DJ Netto is excited for busy part of the year to get underway in California starting Saturday night with the Johnny Key Classic.

“There was some bright spots in our trip, but we were a little disappointed with how we ended up,” DJ Netto said. “Going back there and running at that level will help us for some big races back home I think.”

Kicking his trip off at the Badlands Motor Speedway in Brandon, SD, Netto would open his night off on a high note as he timed his Netto Ag/Penny Newman Grain/Kaeding Performance entry in 11th fastest in what was his first ever visit to the track.

Lining up on the front row of his heat race, Netto would get off to a nice start as he would battle with a driver who has a ton of laps at the speedway, Mark Dobmeier. Finishing second to Dobmeier, Netto would move into the night’s feature event.

Finding himself in the fourth row of the feature event, Netto would continue to show speed during his first visit as he carved his way through the field. Netto would join fellow Californian, Tim Kaeding on the podium as he would finish in the third spot.

Kicking his Knoxville Nationals off during the Capitani Classic, Netto would have a rough night that saw him finish in the B Main.

Heading into his qualifying night, Netto would time in 41st quickest before racing his way from the C Main into the B Main. Still not pleased, Netto and company would continue to work as they were back in action on Friday night.

Friday night would see the Hanford, CA driver get off to a much better start as he would time in 21st quickest before finishing sixth in his heat race. From his 12th starting spot, Netto would look a little more comfortable on the ½ mile as he would pick up a handful of positions during the 12-lap battle as he would finish in the seventh spot.

With his Friday night finish, Netto would line up in the 17th spot of the C Main. With the track still narrow during this race, Netto would race with Jason Solwold, and Austin McCarl during the 15-lapper as he would close his Nationals out with a 16th place finish in the “C”.

“It wasn’t the end result we wanted, but I was really pleased how we seemed to make gains each night,” Netto said. “It was a fun trip, and I was glad we got to make an appearance at Badlands Speedway, and run well there. Huge thanks to everyone who made our trip possible, and I am looking forward to racing Saturday night back in California.”

DJ and his Netto Racing team would like to thank Netto Agriculture, Penny Newman Grain, Kaeding Performance, Shell Rotella T6, and Van De Pol Enterprises for their support in 2016.
