PETERSEN MEDIA- Heading into Saturday night’s Tribute to GP at Stockton Dirt Track to close out the year with Roth Motorsports during the King of the West finale, Dominic Scelzi was in the Championship battle to the last lap but his fifth place finish netted him a third place finish in points.

“We had a really great year with the KWS, but it just wasn’t meant to be for us to win the title,” Dominic Scelzi said. “I had a blast running this Roth Motorsports car all year and have to thank Dennis and Teresa Roth, as well as Todd Ventura and everyone associated with this race team.”

Timing in sixth fastest in qualifying time trials, Scelzi was able to pocket a second place finish in his heat race aboard the Roth Enterprises/HR Livestock Transportation/Jason, Tara, and Cole Roth Cattle Co. backed No. 83.

Earning enough points to make the Sunnyvalley Bacon Dash, Scelzi would finish fourth and line up right alongside points leader, DJ Netto in the feature event.

When the race went green, Scelzi would slip back to seventh as he got stuck in some grease on the race’s opening lap. As the track slowly blew off after some pre race track prep, Scelzi would start go make up his lost ground.

With DJ Netto in front of him, Scelzi would need to make some big moves to have a shot at the KWS title. Getting back up to fifth, Scelzi would be unable to knock Netto off, though he would cap his strong season with the series off by finishing third in the standings.

“It was a hard fought battle to the end, and to win five of these KWS Races is pretty cool,” Scelzi said. “Again, big thanks to the Roth family for the opportunity to chase after this championship in 2019.”

The Roth Motorsports team would like to thank Roth Enterprises, HR Livestock Transportation, Jason, Tara, And Cole Roth Cattle Co., Roth Investments, FK Rod Ends, Weld Wheels, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, Kent Performance, Kaeding Performance, and Smith Titanium for their support in 2019.

BY THE NUMBERS: Races: 33, Wins: 7, Top 5’s: 21, Top 10’s: 25.
