(Hanford, CA)- Taking the spotlight on Saturday night at the Keller Auto Speedway, the King of the West Series made their first of two stops at the Central Califonia speed plant, and it was Fresno, CA driver, Dominic Scelzi dominating what was a wild 30-lap feature event as he scored his second series win of the season. Blake Robertson found victory lane following a dominating RaceSaver 305 performance, as Andy Boydstun picked up the win during the Mini Stock feature event.
As the green flag dropped on the 30-lap KWS feature event, it was Dominic Scelzi jumping out into the early lead, but a series of stoppages would hamper the race from getting a lap in.
When the race finally went green, Scelzi would continue to lead as he quickly pulled away from the field, until another series of cautions flew leading officials to throw a red to allow cars to refuel on the seventh lap.
Following the stoppage, the race would finally get into a nice flow, and though Scelzi would pull away from the field, the race behind him would be entertaining as DJ Netto, Bobby McMahan, Shane Golobic, and Kyle Hirst, who rebounded from one of the early stoppages, raced inside the top-five.
Scelzi would use the top-shelf to his advantage as he continued to lead the way. Getting into lapped traffic, second running Shane Golobic would close in on Scelzi during the final laps, and Kyle Hirst would soon make it a three-car battle for the top spot.
With Scelzi able to carve through traffic brilliantly, he would again get away from Golobic and Hirst as he raced his way to the popular victory, leading all 30-laps. Golobic would hang on to second, Hirst third, Tyler Walker would fight back to finish fourth after falling back in the Top-10 early on in the race, and Carson Macedo would round out the Top-Five, taking over the series points lead with his performance.
The RaceSaver 305 feature event was all about Visalia, CA driver, Blake Robertson. After lining up in the fourth row of the feature event, Robertson would find himself in the second spot in the first lap, and chasing after early leader, Monty Ferriera.
Taking the top spot on the sixth lap, Robertson would be un challenged over the final 19 markers as he again parked his immaculately prepared No. 15 machine in victory lane. Jesse Mack would finish second, Mike Schott would use a late race surge to finish third, Chris Ennis would finish fourth, and Eric Correia rounded out the Top-Five.
Andy Boydstun would seize a mid-race opportunity during the Mini Stock feature event as the race leader would get a shape, and open the door up for Boydstun. Jumping into the lead, Boydstun would fend off Josh Nichols to grab the win.
