Dominic Scelzi Scores Second KWS Feature Event Win of the Season

PETERSEN MEDIA- Returning to action with Roth Motorsports over the weekend for a pair of King of the West events, Dominic Scelzi would score his second win of the year with the series on Friday night in Watsonville, CA before finishing third during a wild feature on Saturday in Stockton, CA.
“It was a really good weekend for the team, and the car felt great both nights,” Dominic Scelzi said. “We were able to win on Friday, and Saturday I felt like we had a shot until nose wing damage about ½ way through kind of slowed us down.”
Kicking the weekend off at Ocean Speedway for the Pombo-Sargent Classic, Scelzi got off to a great start as he timed the Roth Enterprises/HR Livestock Transportation/Jason, Tara, and Cole Roth Cattle Co. No. 83jr in fastest in time trials.
Advancing from fourth to second in his heat race, Scelzi would transfer into the Dash where his fifth place finish placed him in the third row for the 30-lap feature.
Running inside the Top-Five in the race’s opening stages, Scelzi would inherit a couple of positions as he took over the second spot. Hounding Willie Croft, Scelzi would sneak under him in three and four on the 23rd lap, as he took over the race lead.
Surviving a couple of big moves from Ryan Bernal during the final laps, Scelzi would hang on to grab the win.
Traveling to Stockton Dirt Track on Saturday night, Scelzi would go out late for time trials, and it would result in him timing in eighth fastest in time trials.
Able to pick up a heat race win, the Fresno, CA driver would finish third in the Dash and took the green flag from the second row of the 25-lap feature event.
Running third in the early stages of the race, Scelzi would get into second as he chased after leader Sean Watts.
With his nose wing going down as he worked around the rough and tumble surface, Scelzi would slip back to third as DJ Netto was able to find a way around him.
Fighting with Bud Kaeding for the final podium position in the race’s closing laps, Scelzi was able to fend him off and cap a strong weekend with a third place finish.
“Big thanks to Dennis and Teresa Roth for their continued support, as well as all of the people involved with this team for all they do for me,” Scelzi said. “It feels great to get another win for everyone, and hopefully we can do it again this weekend.”
The Roth Motorsports team would like to thank Roth Enterprises, HR Livestock Transportation, Jason, Tara, And Cole Roth Cattle Co., Roth Investments, FK Rod Ends, Weld Wheels, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, Kent Performance, Kaeding Performance, and Smith Titanium for their support in 2019.
