PETERSEN MEDIA: 2018 is off and running in the open wheel racing world, and nine time World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series Champion, Donny Schatz put the world on notice after claiming four of five feature events during the DIRTcar Nationals in Barberville, FL.
Running under the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions pres. by Mobil1 the first two nights, Schatz kicked off the DIRTcar Nationals by using his KSE Racing parts to score two feature events.
Friday night, the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series took over and on this night, it was Sheldon Haudenschild and his Stenhouse Jr/Marshall Racing team parking in victory lane with KSE Racing Products. The win for Haudenschild was his first career World of Outlaws triumph.
Saturday and Sunday night, it was again all about Schatz and Tony Stewart Racing. Grabbing the lead with two-to-go on Saturday night, Schatz was able to score his 250th career WoO win and on Sunday night he would claim his first career DIRTcar Nationals Title by winning his fourth race of the week.
While most dialed into the DIRTcar Nationals, racing commenced in Ocala, FL as well over the weekend. In a USCS Sprint Car, and Lucas Oil POWRi Series double header weekend, it was Mark Smith (USCS), and Kevin Thomas, Jr (POWRi) both using their KSE Racing Products to score weekend sweeps at Bubba Raceway Park.
Also at Bubba Raceway Park last weekend during the Bubba Army Winter Nationals, Haudenschild also scored an All Star Circuit of Champions win, as did Tim Shaffer and reining ASCoC champion, Chad Kemenah.
