PETERSEN MEDIA: Checking in at Marysville Raceway on Saturday night to open his 2024 season, Dawson Hammes had a good start to the feature event until contact with a car suddenly slowing brought his night to an abrupt end.
“It was a bummer way for our season to start,” Dawson Hammes said. “We had a pretty good night going, but unfortunately another car lost power right in front of me, and contact ensued and it ended our night.”
With 22 cars checked in for the track’s regular season opener, Hammes timed the Movement Brewing/STS Farming backed No. 55D in seventh fastest in qualifying time trials.
Lining up on the front row of his heat race, the Marysville, CA driver got the jump which was vital with the way the track was on this night. Keeping his mount out front, Hammes secured the win which put him in the nightly redraw.
Pulling the eight, Hammes lined up in the fourth row for the first 25-lap feature event of his 2024 season.
With the track still extremely fast, Hammes worked his way into seventh in the opening laps as he worked his way around the Marysville Raceway surface.
With the opening seven laps ripping off in quick fashion, lap eight saw a car suddenly slow to a stop in front of Hammes, and with nowhere to go Hammes made severe contact, which brought nis night to an end.
“You hate to tear equipment up like that on any night, but it is especially tough being opening night,” he added. “I really have to thank my parents, Carson, Aly, Cody, and Evan for their help. It was great to get back to the track and see all of the fans out, and I am excited to be back racing.”
