Eliason 11th at Peter Murphy Classic
PETERSEN MEDIA- Overcoming a tough qualifying effort, Cory Eliason turned in a gritty performance at the Peter Murphy Classic that saw him score an 11th place finish.
“The track was pretty slick in time trials, and we were just a tick too free,” Cory Eliason said. “The guys went to work, and we were able to fight back all night and come away with an 11th place finish.”
Timing the Good Guys/Rod and Custom Association/Fire Protection Management, Inc./TW Performance backed No. 20 sprinter in 13th fastest in his qualifying flight, Eliason would find himself in the fourth row of his heat race.
Running a patient 10-lap heat, Eliason would slowly work his way forward and into the fifth spot late in the race. Needing to get to fourth to transfer directly to the feature, Eliason would execute a final lap, final turn pass to secure a spot in the 30-lap Peter Murphy Classic finale.
Lining up in the ninth row of the feature event, the track would undergo extensive prep prior to the feature event as rubber had gone down during the non-wing series’ feature event.
When the race got underway, the track was simply too good and passing would be a tough feat for the entire field. Able to make some moves, Eliason would work his way forward to secure a hard fought 11th place finish when the action wrapped up.
“It was just hard to pass,” Eliason said. “With the work they did we had hoped it would ‘blow off’ after a few laps and allow us to move around, but it stayed too fast and we kind of got all we could. Huge thanks to everyone on this team for all of their continued hard work.”
