Eliason Charges To Fourth at Johnny Key Classic

PETERSEN MEDIA- Cory Eliason kicked off a busy stretch in his 2015 season on Saturday night by charging his way to a fourth place finish during the 55th Annual Johnny Key Classic at the Ocean Speedway.
“We were pretty good, and were able to take advantage of some restarts during the first segment and really make up some ground,” Eliason said. “It was racy early and then the rubber came, so I was happy we were good early.”
Looking to grab one of the 19 spots available for the 50-lap A Main, the Kingsburg, CA driver timed his Driven Performance/Reitz Almond Harvesting/GC Hansen Trucking No. 00 machine in 9th fastest after a late qualifying draw.
With heat race being lined up straight off of qualifying time, Eliason was able to race his way to a third place finish from his second row starting spot and successfully transfer into the night’s A-Main.
Watching the night unfold with B Mains and a Last Chance Qualifier, Eliason would find himself gridding the field from the seventh row for the 50-lap A Main event.
Working his way into the Top-10 in the race’s first nine green flag laps, Eliason would take advantage of restarts on lap 11 and 14 as he would then find himself in the sixth spot, and in the hunt.
A couple more caution flags would plague the first segment, but Eliason had done his moving and shaking, as he ran in the sixth spot when the scheduled red flag waived on the 25th lap.
With rubber going down on the speedway as the second session kicked off, Eliason had a great restart as he rocketed into fourth spot and chased after Jonathan Allard. As rubber continued to go down, passing would go by the way side and Eliason would look for someone in the top three to miss the rubber.
With the checkered flag in the air, Eliason would hold on to his top-five finish as he would finish fourth after starting 13th.
“We did a great job after timing in a little farther back than we would have liked,” Eliason said. “The track was good until it took rubber, and we had a really good handle on things. I have to thank everyone who helped us out all night long.”
Cory and his Eliason Racing team would like to thank Driven Performance, Reitz Almond Harvesting, GC Hansen Trucking, Ultra Grown, Advanced Auto and Smog, RE Technologies, Rider Racing Engines, Eliason Racing Composites, and Shell Shock for their continued support.
ON TAP: Eliason will be back in action on Tuesday September 8th during the Kyle Larson Outlaw Kart Showcase in Chico, CA before taking to the Silver Dollar Speedway on September 9th with the Civil War Sires, and on the 11th and 12th with the World of Outlaws.
