PETERSEN MEDIA- Cory Eliason and Antaya Motorsports are using consistency to fight for the 2017 King of the West Championship. Though a bit disappointed with the result after leading early, Eliason and team would still finish fourth at Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, CA.

“It was an eventful night for the Antaya Motorsports team, and I have to thank my guys for working their butt’s off,” Eliason said “We timed in okay, and won our heat race, but we hurt and engine and had to change it before the Dash.”

Timing the Good Guys Rod and Custom Association/Fuel Curve/Fire Protection Management, Inc. No. 20 machine in seventh fastest, Eliason would capitalize on a front row starting spot in his heat race.

With an engine going south, the Kingsburg, CA pilot was able to keep his challengers at bay as he grabbed the win and advanced into the Dash.

Able to make an engine swap prior to the Dash, Eliason would run second in the six-lap shootout and line up on the pole for the 30-lap feature event.

On a freshly prepared surface for the ‘A’, Eliason would jump on the throttle when the green lights flashed and take the early lead. Quickly opening up a sizeable lead, Eliason looked very strong out front as he chased after the rear of the field.

Getting into traffic at the race’s halfway point, Eliason would see his lead start to evaporate, as he would feel pressure from Kyle Hirst. Though Hirst would get him on the 18th lap, and he would fall back to third, Eliason would stay in a three-car battle for the top spot until the race’s lone caution flew on lap 23.

When the race picked back up, Eliason would fight with Carson Macedo for the third spot as the two drivers sliced and diced their way around the Thunderbowl racing wheel to wheel.

Losing the position, Eliason would end up finishing in the fourth spot.

“We had a good car, and led early but lapped traffic bit us a little during a pretty long green flag run,” Eliason added. “Unfortunately when you’re leading like that and get to traffic that could happen. Again, Thanks to Larry, TW, Skip, and all of these guys for their hard work.”

Antaya Motorsports would like to thank Good Guys Rod and Custom Association, Fuel Curve, Fire Protection Management, Inc., TW Performance, Kaeding Performance, Cardinal Paint and Powder, Tool World, Maas Brothers Powder Coating, and Shiro’s Collision Center for their support in 2017.
