PETERSEN MEDIA: Meeting up with the King of the West Series on Saturday night in Stockton, CA, Cory Eliason would see a good night go a little south after a late restart as he finished ninth during the Jimmy Sills Classic.

“We had an eventful night, but still had a pretty fast racecar in the feature event,” Cory Eliason said. “We were all over the leader the first 20-laps but we had a tire seal up under a yellow flag and fell back to finish eighth.”

Timing the Lucas Oil/Hansen Machine/NAAKE Suspension backed No. 5h machine in fifth quickest in time trials, the Kingsburg, CA driver would overcome a steering issue during his heat race to finish in the fourth spot and make himself dash eligible.

Pulling the three pill in the dash draw, Eliason would grid the field from the second row for the sixth lap shootout to set the first four rows for the feature event. Making a move in the dash, Eliason’s second place finish would line him up on the front row for the feature event.

Settling into the second spot when the green lights flashed, Eliason would not make things easy on the race leader as he was all over him from the get go. Getting into traffic, Eliason would look to make his move but would be forced to get out of the gas and allow the leader to pull away.

Running in the second spot when the feature went yellow on the 20th circuit, Eliason would have a tire seal up on him and it would be noticed on the restart as he drifted back through the field trying to make grip on the slick surface. Finding himself back in the ninth spot, Eliason would hang on for the final laps and close his night out with a Top-10 finish.

“I really feel for my guys because we had a way better car than where we ended up,” Eliason added. “Harley and Fez really have this car dialed in right now and I am hopeful we can continue to stay strong when we head north next week.”

The Van Dyke Motorsports team would like to thank Lucas Oil, Hansen Machine, NAAKE Suspension, Maxim Chassis, and Moyle Racing Engines for their support during the year.
