PETERSEN MEDIA- Taking part in the King of the West series’ first trip to Antioch Speedway since the 2013 season, Cory Eliason and the Antaya Motorsports team had a nice showing that saw them pocket a podium finish and tighten the early points battle up.

“We had good speed all night, but in the feature it kind of took rubber early and became really hard to pass on,” Eliason said. “It was one of those nights where you get what you can settle in and hit your marks for 30-laps.”

Setting the standard in time trials aboard the Good Guys Rod and Custom Association/Fuel Curve/Fire Protection Management, Inc. backed sprinter, Eliason would lay down a 12.245 second lap and earn quick time honors.

From the second row of his heat race, the Kingsburg, CA native would pick up two positions, as he would race his way into the second spot and successfully get a spot in the six-lap Dash.

Taking the green flag from the third starting spot, Eliason would get collected with another car that was stalled in turn two and it would force him to the back. Restarting six, Eliason would work up to finish fourth aboard the TW Performance/Kaeding Performance/Cardinal Paint and Powder machine.

On an extremely slick Antioch Speedway for the feature, Eliason would run in the fourth spot during the opening two circuits before the caution flew and lined the field back up nose to tail.

Working into third on the restart, Eliason would chase after DJ Netto until the caution flew a couple laps later. Back underway, Eliason would challenge Netto but rubber would go down and passing would prove to be difficult.

Getting close to second running Netto in traffic a couple of times, Eliason couldn’t get close enough to make a move. Finishing in the third spot, Eliason still sits second in KWS points, but is now just four points of the lead.

“I have to thank my guys for working so hard all night long,” Eliason said. “We have a busy month of racing here in June, and we are all excited to get back to Tulare this weekend.”

Antaya Motorsports would like to thank Good Guys Rod and Custom Association, Fuel Curve, Fire Protection Management, Inc., TW Performance, Kaeding Performance, Cardinal Paint and Powder, Tool World, Maas Brothers Powder Coating, and Shiro’s Collision Center for their support in 2017.
