PETERSEN MEDIA: With just one final race left in California taking place Saturday night, Cory Eliason would compete with both the Civil War Series and King of the West Series and score Top-10 finishes in both divisions.
‘The race track was tough all night long, but fortunately we were able to put both cars in good starting spots and have a pretty good night.”
Piloting the Van Dyke Motorsports No. 5h with the Civil War Series, Eliason would time in sixth fastest in his qualifying flight before recording a second place finish during his heat race.
Missing out on a Dash birth, Eliason would find himself on the outside of the sixth row for the 30-lap feature event. With the track extremely slick and abrasive, there was not a lot of moving around the race track as the field was single file for the most part.
Able to use his patience, Eliason would pick up a few spots and bring the Van Dyke entry home with a seventh place finish.
Aboard his own No. 00jr machine with the King of the West, Eliason would time in good enough to start on the front row of a heat race. Timing in 12th fastest, the Kingsburg, CA pilot would race his way to a heat race win and earn a spot in the all-important Dash.
Finishing sixth in the Dash, Eliason grid the field from the field from the third row for the 30-lap KWS season finale.
With the track tough to maneuver on just as it was in the 360ci race, Eliason would actually fall back early in the goings as he tried to search around as light work was done prior to the green.
Finding himself back in the 10th spot, Eliason would then get into line and slowly work his way back through the field as he battled with the likes of Willie Croft, Kyle Hirst, and Bud Kaeding.
Eliason would cap his night off with a fourth place finish.
“It would have been a little better if there was more track to race on, but we all had to deal with it,” Eliason said. “It’s great to run well in both cars, and hopefully we can keep the 5h going well this weekend in AZ.”
The Van Dyke Motorsports team would like to thank Lucas Oil, Hansen Machine, NAAKE Suspension, Maxim Chassis, and Moyle Racing Engines for their support during the year.
